Scope: Installation of metal facade structures and interior glazing. Alabasthall / Lyshallen — complete installation with large glass elements (7.25 m × 3 m).
About the museum: The new National Museum is set to open in 2021. It will bring together the collections of the National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design under one roof. The museum will feature a permanent exhibition of around 5,000 objects. Design, visual art, crafts, and contemporary art will be displayed side by side.
The most striking feature of the new museum will be the spacious, illuminated exhibition hall at the top of the building. It will be used for temporary exhibitions of international importance. With its transparent walls, this glowing hall will become a visible part of the cityscape in the evening.
The building was designed by Kleihues + Schuwerk Gesellschaft von Architekten, with an emphasis on dignity and longevity rather than sensational architecture. Great care was taken to harmonize the structure with its surroundings and existing monuments, such as Oslo City Hall and the Akershus Fortress. A rooftop terrace will offer a unique view of the inner Oslo Fjord. New open public spaces will be created around the museum.
